Hummer Wraps Up Busy Fall Season |
|
November 21, 2008
Hummer Sports Park just completed its 6th and most successful fall season to date. Starting with a boy's soccer game between Highland Park and Atchison on August 29th, Hummer hosted over 50 events during the fall season, and that doesn't count the team practices, band practices, or the Topeka Swim Association practices or lap swims at the Capitol Federal Natatorium. The fall season wrapped up the weekend of November 7th & 8th by hosting the Kansas State Activities Association Boy's 6A State Soccer Championship.
While Hummer was the home field for Topeka High and Topeka West football teams, it also hosted several Junior Varsity and Freshman football games for both schools. The six Middle Schools for the Topeka Public Schools were able to each play two games at Hummer. Jardine won the Middle School championship.
In soccer, Highland Park made Hummer home for its boy's soccer games, so all three high schools played at Hummer th is fall. In addition to hosting the 6A Boy's championship, Hummer also hosted for the third straight year the National Junior College Region VI Men and Women's Soccer Championships, and they have already booked the championships for 2009.
What would fall football games be like without marching bands? Both Topeka High and Topeka West performed before enthusiastic crowds for each home football game. In addition, Topeka West hosted their annual Centennial League Marching Band Exhibition on September 24th. In addition to the Charger band, bands from Highland Park, Seaman, and Washburn Rural participated in the exhibition.
As full as the schedule was this fall was, 2009 will be even busier. Highland Park will be making Hummer home for their football games meaning that some home games will be played on Thursday as well as Friday. Coining the phase used in the movie "Field of Dreams", "If you build it, they will come" was never more true. That is why we say "Something magical is always happening at Hummer!"
Please check out our calendar of events for more information on upcoming events at Hummer.

Topeka High Wins Opener at Hummer Sports Park |
|
September 7, 2010
Topeka High took on perennially tough Holton High School Friday night at Hummer. A great crowd turned out for what was expected to be a hard fought battle. Topeka High jumped out on top 14 to 0, but Holton never panicked and stuck to their patented ground game. They pulled within 14 to 6, but the Trojans had a lot more in their tank. The Trojans were up 33 to 14 late in the game when Holton scored another touchdown to make the final score 33 to 22. Topeka High had 23 first downs to 17 for Holton, and 450 total yards to 344 for the Wildcats. While the offense looked great, the Trojan defense made some great stops when it had to to ensure the victory.
This week at Hummer, Topeka West takes on Shawnee Heights in boy's soccer on Tuesday, and Highland Park takes on Hayden in boy's soccer Thursday evening. The Topeka West Chargers have their first home game of the football season when they take on the Manhattan Indians Friday night.
Check out the "Calendar of Events" on this site for dates and times of other contests and then come out to Hummer and find out why we say, "Something magical is always happening at Hummer"!
